History at Timna Park

As you walk through the park, you’ll find ancient copper mines and a few remains of furnaces dating back to the times of Ancient Egypt.

Copper was the first metal used to create utensil and household tools, ornaments, cult objects and even weapons. That means that the importance of Timna in the ancient world was enormous.

There are Multimedia displays that tell the amazing history of the site, and visitors are engaged by dream-like stories of Egyptian goddesses and pharaohs.

In the small lake, pedal boats are included in the entrance fee and for the small children there are some activities as sand bottling with the region’s unique colored sand; and other craft activities.

Nature at Timna

Solomon’s Pillars are tall sandstone columns, so perfectly formed that you might not believe that they are the work of nature. But they, as with the rest of the amazing geology and landscape of Timna Park, are the work of nature alone, the result of strips of volcanic magma frozen into the cliffs. This scenery truly is the thing dreams are made of.
