A visit to "The Shuk" of Machane Yehuda is a MUST
In the heart of Jerusalem
Located on the heart of Jerusalem it integrates the old history with the new present of this Holy City and they do it in a very unique way.
Mahane Yehuda is a neighborhood and at the same time a bustling market with all the colors and aromas of a Middle Eastern Market with a special Israeli Flavor. They offer fruits and vegetable, meat and poultry, like any market, besides restaurants and bars. What’s different here is the feeling of Authenticity all over the place.
It's not the Spice Market in Istanbul - It's the Shuk in Jerusalem
It is an icon of Jerusalem
The Jerusalemites consider this Shuk as their own, their own symbol that gives them a unique identity from the rest of Israelis. It reminds them of their childhood and of Yossi Banai’s songs and their love for Jerusalem. It doesn’t matter that Jerusalem has today the best shopping supermarkets and malls like the one in Malcha, Mahane Yehuda is always there not only to buy fruits or vegetables but also to meet old friends and acquaintances.
The nickname of this Shuk is Machneyuda in one word this is also the name of one of the finest restaurants in Jerusalem in particular and of Israel as a whole.
Macheyuda Restaurant inside the Market in Jerusalem
It is run by three chefs: Yossi Elad, Asaf Granit, and Uri Navon. They acquire their ingredients in the same market and cook them in their fully integrated kitchen, in front of the diners.
The fish served in Machneyuda and all are from local suppliers, as well as the meat of beef or lamb that comes from local Israeli farmers. They are so creative that the menu is changed daily according to what the market has to offer.
The atmosphere is mesmerizing from the moment you arrive. The vegetables are displayed on open crates as they came from the market.
In the second floor they have an open storage room where all spices and other ingredients are kept decorating the shelves. The Israeli Wines menu is as varied as you may expect to match their amazing food.
